01

What is a trading strategy?

A trading strategy is a structured set of rules that helps a trader decide when to enter, manage, and exit a position.

Instead of making every decision emotionally or randomly, a strategy gives the trader a repeatable framework for interpreting market conditions and managing risk.

  • Market conditions the strategy is designed for
  • Entry conditions
  • Stop-loss and risk rules
  • Profit-taking or exit conditions
  • Position-sizing rules
02

Why traders use strategies

Markets can move quickly, and decisions made under pressure can become inconsistent. A defined strategy helps create discipline by establishing rules before a trade is taken.

A strategy can also be reviewed over time. Traders can examine which conditions produced good or poor results and improve their process based on evidence.

03

A strategy is not a prediction

No trading strategy can guarantee that every trade will be profitable. A strategy is a decision-making framework, not a prediction machine.

Good strategy development therefore combines market analysis with risk management, realistic expectations, and consistent execution.
